FAQ
Online radio questions
Have another question? Write to us and we'll get back to you.
What's the difference between Shoutcast and Icecast?
Both deliver your radio to listeners. Shoutcast is the best known in radio directories and Icecast is open source and very flexible. You pick one when you sign up, and both work equally well on phones and browsers.
Can I broadcast live?
Yes. You and your DJs connect with software like BUTT, Mixxx, SAM Broadcaster or RadioBOSS, or straight from the browser with Web DJ. AutoDJ resumes when you disconnect.
How much does it cost to run an online radio?
With us, from $4 USD a month on the Basic plan: 128 kbps, up to 100 listeners at once and 5 GB for AutoDJ. On top of that, budget for music licenses in your country and, if you want your own website, a domain.
Which quality do I need?
128 kbps sounds great for music and talk on phones. 192 kbps gives a richer sound and 320 kbps is the highest MP3 quality, ideal for demanding music stations.
How much music fits in 5 GB?
It depends on your files' quality. Four-minute songs as 128 kbps MP3: about 1,200, close to 80 hours of music. As 320 kbps MP3, about 500 fit. FLAC files take much more space, so MP3 is the better choice for uploads.
How many listeners can I have?
Basic allows up to 100 listeners at once, Pro up to 250 and Premium up to 500. It is the number of people listening at the same time, not a daily or monthly limit.
Which audio formats can I upload?
MP3, AAC/M4A, OGG and FLAC, among others. AutoDJ converts them to your plan's quality when broadcasting, so you can upload your music as it is.
Can I list my radio on TuneIn and other apps?
Yes. Your stream link works in radio directories and apps, and AzuraCast can send the current song to TuneIn. You sign up to each directory with your own link.
Who is responsible for music rights?
Each customer is responsible for holding the permissions or licenses for the music they broadcast under the laws of their country.
